Model: HO gauge. Lasercut kit made of colored architectural cardboard. Dimensions L x W x H: 186 x 152 x 95 mm. Precise scale replication of the building in the Lower Rhine Open-Air Museum in Grefrath in the Viersen district. The Modellbahn Union in cooperation with the Grefrath open-air museum authentically replicates the museum buildings as models in 1:87 and 1: 160. The house comes from the village of Rasseln, today a district in the northwest of Mönchengladbach. It was built in the early 17th century at the beginning of the Thirty Years‘ War (1618-1648). The use of the numerous cross beams in the construction of the house suggests a wealthy builder. The purchase of wood was associated with high costs in the rather poor wood of the Lower Rhine. The building is a so-called residential-stable house. A large double chimney divides it into two units, the living area and the utility or stable area. The central area of ??the house is the kitchen with the open fireplace. Not only did everyday life take place here. The kitchen was usually the warmest place in the house – and therefore the most used room in the cold season. The sleeping wing and the so-called “parlor”, which was only visited on special festive days, and the former woodturning shop come from it. In the back part there is the economic area with its own fireplace and the stables. In addition to the horses, oxen and small cattle, the agricultural equipment was also housed there. The interior of the entire building corresponds to the style of the 18th and 19th centuries. A cross-tennis barn from the 18th century from Rheindahlen is also built in the Rasseln courtyard. Large agricultural implements from the early 20th century are exhibited in it.
